As an organization dedicated to supporting children and families in crisis, we recognize that holidays can be a delicate and nuanced time for many. In this series, Purposeful Perspectives, we asked our staff members to select a season, month, or day that is meaningful to them to share with our CASA community. Thank you for joining us as we take a deeper look behind the celebrations that fill our lives.
A December to Remember
By Joyce Jones
Hiding under the blankets with my sister, listening intently for Santa’s footsteps. The warm, sweet aroma of my favorite cake baking in the oven, filling the house with comfort. Decorating the Christmas tree my father had lovingly cut from the woods behind our home.
These cherished memories from my childhood are just a few reasons why December holds a special place in my heart.
For me, this season is about so much more than the festivities—it’s about unity, joy, and love. December is a time to celebrate togetherness, to embrace the spirit of giving, and to bask in the happiness that comes from both giving and receiving. Growing up, we celebrated the birth of Christ at church, grounding the season in faith and purpose. Christmas with my siblings was magical, filled with excitement, surprises, and the simple wonder of family gatherings.
As we move through this holiday season, my wish is that every child experiences that same magic—whether through the joy of giving, the thrill of surprises, or the warmth of being surrounded by love. To all the dreamers out there, may you continue to believe in the beauty of the season and, most importantly, in yourselves.
Merry Christmas and may this season bring joy and unity to us all.
