Keynote Speaker

Suamhirs Piraino-Guzman is a survivor of child abuse and human trafficking. He grew up in Honduras where he was exposed to extreme violence at the hands of his father.  At age 14, he was kidnapped and broughtConference Keynote 2017 to America where he was sold into child sex trafficking in San Diego, CA.  Eventually rescued from his abductors, he was placed in foster care where he suffered further trauma, experiencing six different residential placements during his time in the system.   With the help of his CASA volunteer, however, Suamhirs persevered and successfully transitioned to adulthood.  Today, Piraino-Guzman is the Program Coordinator for the Pathways Initiative at Harmonium, Inc., helping 16-24 year olds achieve educational, training and employment success. He is also a Behavioral Health Specialist and contracts with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, and other state, local and national organizations to provide mental health services to victims of severe sexual crimes.  Piraino-Guzman also travels the country advocating for youth and teaching caregivers and service providers how to create trusting relationships with children who have been traumatized. He was recently appointed by President Obama to the United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking and became San Diego County’s youngest foster parent.
